TRANZISYON: Haitian Folkloric
and Modern Dance Choreography
-
TRANZISYON is a powerful choreographic work that explores the emotional, mental, and spiritual journey of young Haitians who leave behind the instability of their homeland in search of something unknown abroad.
This 10-week, donation-based Dance for Joy series continues the summer workshop phase of TRANZISYON, where community members shared personal stories of migration to the U.S. The choreography draws from these real-life experiences, portraying the harsh realities many undocumented migrants face as they navigate dangerous terrain, long distances, and deep uncertainty on their path to a new life.
Blending modern and contemporary dance with Haitian folkloric movement, this class invites students to embody and process these stories through powerful choreography accompanied by live traditional singing and drumming. You will move through journeys of fear, fatigue, hope, and resilience—imagining travel through forests, oceans, and unknown lands—while exploring what it means to dream of survival and belonging.
Join Robenson Mathurin in this 10-week donation based deeply moving and transcendent experience, where dance becomes a space for storytelling, healing, and connection.
