Come experience where culture and concert Jazz dance intersect in the world of Katherine Dunham! Discover who Dunham directly influenced and how her influence shaped American Jazz dance performance in the US and abroad. Explore her impact on film, Broadway, and concert stages, and how her work continues to inform contemporary, social, commercial, musical theater, and concert dance today.
In this class, you will learn Dunham Technique and explore the rich philosophy behind her movement, including her research-to-stage process and cultural theories. Learn how her ideas inspire a Dunham way of life that unites culture, community, and purpose on and off the stage.
The class begins with a classic Dunham warm-up, followed by dynamic Jazz progressions infused with Dunham-inspired elements, and ends with vibrant combinations that build toward an exhilarating performance. Whether you're new to dance or a seasoned mover, this high-energy class celebrates freedom of expression, personal power, and creative artistry.
