Gede Celebration
w/ Julio Jean & Sherley Davilma at 651 ARTS
We are excited to welcome Sherley Davilmar, the artistic director and co-founder of La Troupe Zetwal, as she joins Julio for Gede, Haiti’s ancestral celebration of life, death, and rebirth. The Gede spirits, or lwa, carry the wisdom of fertility, conception, and the eternal cycle of life and death, reminding us of their unity. Under the guidance of Julio and Sherley, we’ll explore the traditions of spirits like Gede Nibo, Papa Gede/Bawon Samdi, and Maman Brigitte.
Come dressed in purple, black, and white to embrace the festive spirit, and feel free to add elements like canes, dark glasses, top hats, and/or face paint.
