Join us for an exciting afternoon of Afro-Brazilian music and dance as Batalá New York, the city's premiere Black-led Afro-Brazilian percussion ensemble, celebrates the culmination of their 8-week performance workshop. From 2:30 to 3:30 PM, workshop students will complete their final class, where they’ve been learning to drum and dance in harmony with rhythms they’ve created, connecting deeply to their bodies and traditions. Doors open to the public at 3:30 PM, where you'll be able to enjoy a special Batalá demo performance followed by a Q&A session, where you'll have the opportunity to learn more about the rich cultural history and rhythms behind Afro-Brazilian drumming. Afterward, enjoy delicious traditional Brazilian food, with offerings by Erminia Apolinario.
