Cumbe RISE Saturdays @ noon presents
THE ART OF DANCING
YANVALOU
at GIBNEY DANCE w/ Candice Michelle Franklin and Special Guest Julio Jean
Candice Michelle Franklin + Julio Jean
Experience the powerful flow of Yanvalou, a sacred Haitian Vodou dance rooted in rhythm, reverence, and resilience. This workshop focuses on refining technique and developing a fluid spinal undulation that reflects the dance's spiritual foundation.
Guided by the legacy of Katherine Dunham, who first brought Yanvalou to the stage in L'Ag "Ya (1983), students will explore the dance's cultural roots, theatrical evolution, and Dunham Technique fundamentals. Through movement, history, and intentional practice, you'll deepen both your physical expression and cultural understanding.
Whether you're looking to expand your movement vocabulary or connect more deeply with Haitian tradition, this class offers a transformative experience.
Let the rhythm move you. Sign up today!
